Pomegranates are non-climacteric, but ethylene accelerates their deterioration rate, peel senescence and decay incidence.

Pomegranates are very susceptible to pathological disorders such as gray mold caused by botrytis cinereal. Gray mold is the most important postharvest decay-causing fungus.
